Three suspected car thieves were caught in Waterkloof following a car chase on Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said a lookout was given for suspected car thieves who were trying to steal a Toyota Corolla at a church in Milner Street, Waterkloof at around 10.30.
Hi-Risk security (which forms part of the Brooklyn security forum) responded first to the scene.

Weilbach said security guards caught four suspects who were attempting to steal the car.
“When the guards tried to intervene, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at them. The guards responded by shooting at the suspects, who sped away in a getaway vehicle,” she said.
“The suspects then fired shots at members of Brooklyn SAPS who were hot on their trail.”

Weilbach said the trio lost control of their vehicle in Clark Street, a few blocks away from the church.
“Three suspects were immediately arrested by the police and the security guards on the scene.
“One suspect sustained a gunshot wound and received medical treatment from the Hi-Risk medical unit before being taken to a local hospital. The fourth suspect managed to escape,” she said.

Weilbach said car breaking equipment was found inside the vehicle that was used by the men.
“The three men, all in their 30s and from Mamelodi, are expected to appear in the Hatfield Community Court soon on charges of attempted theft of motor vehicle, possession of car breaking implements and attempted murder.”
Brooklyn acting police station commander Colonel Terrence Naidoo congratulated his members and the security partners for the sterling work and the way they operated together in apprehending the suspects.
He said that joint crime prevention operations such as these during the festive season in the Brooklyn policing precinct would contribute a great deal to make the community safe.
