Three suspects who tried to evade police were arrested for possession of suspected stolen meat on Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said the men were aged between 26 and 36 and were arrested by the police during festive season operations in Kameeldrift, east of Pretoria
“Police stopped three suspects driving in a cream-white Chevrolet bakkie transporting large cuts of red meat in Kameeldrift, but the suspects tried to avoid the police by speeding off,” said Mbewe.
“Their bakkie was not fast enough and they were ultimately stopped. Unaccountable large cuts of red meat including three cow heads were found in the back of the bakkie,” said Mbewe.

The suspects were detained at the Kameeldrift police station and will appear in court soon.
Mbewe further said the police were investigating after a man came to the station to open a case of stock theft after three of his cows were stolen from his yard. He said when he woke up all three of his cows were missing.
Mbewe said police were still investigating to determine if all the large pieces of red meat found were cow meat.
“The police will continue with operations until they are sure that all the people are safe during the festive season. Residents must phone 08600 10111 for any suspicions they may have about people or their activities.
