Metro announces infrastructure for Winterveldt
The project will ensure the area has infrastructure for sanitation.
There may still be hope for Winterveldt residents who live without any proper sanitation and in poor living conditions, as the metro has recently approved a bulk infrastructure project for the area.
“The project, which includes water and sanitation bulk services, will ensure that the area has infrastructure for sanitation,” said Tshwane city spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
Residents have been living in abject conditions for a while now.
Resident Nurse Mchunu said since she moved to Winterveldt in 1985, pit toilets have been the norm in her community.
“It really hurts my feelings knowing that we still face such challenges,” said Mchunu.
“We also want to be like other people and one day wake up to flushing toilets. At this point of time, it looks impossible,”
Resident Lusi Kunene (58) said that, at her age, she expected developments to have taken place at Winterveldt.
“We still do not have basic necessities such as waste bins,” Kunene told Rekord.
“I fail to understand what exactly the municipality is doing. We have been suffering with pit toilets for years now.”
She said residents sometimes had to use pit toilets and waste bins to dispose of sanitary towels.
“Can you imagine how easy it will be for us to get infected with illnesses,” asked Kunene.
