How Pretoria clinic offers top service

The clinic was recently named among the top five health facilities in South Africa.

The Laudium Clinic has promised to offer residents improved service.

The clinic, which was recently named among the top five health facilities in South Africa, held an annual open day on Thursday, 21 June.

Facility manager at the clinic Maria Skosana said the open day was aimed at informing the community of the services provided.

“We want to make the community feel part of what is happening at the clinic,” said Skosana.

One of the new programmes of which community members were made aware is the ability to now make appointments for specific times of the day.

“This will not only lessen queues at the clinic but also lessen inconvenience for visitors.”

Skosana said since 2009, the clinic had won the annual patient satisfaction award and in 2017 was awarded the best dispensary prize.

The clinic received 83 percent for its standard of compliance and placed in the top five among more than 690 other healthcare facilities across the country.

The theme for this year’s open day was drug awareness.

Community members were able to, on request, take a drug test and were also educated on the various other services which the clinic offered to substance abusers. Some of these services include psychological assistance and support.

“We look at the needs of the community and then decide on a topic to concentrate on,” said Skosana.

Social workers were also present on the day to assist the community workers.

Another focus was that of a healthy lifestyle.

Community members were given the opportunity to engage with service providers who educated them on the need to live healthily and what they could do to improve their overall health.

Tshwane MMC for health Sakkie du Plooy said the open day also addressed other issues affecting communities on a daily basis such as mental health and child welfare.

“We are delighted to have earned the support of the Gauteng health department’s dietician and oral hygienist, mental healthcare, child welfare, community-oriented substance use programme, NGO’s Right to Care and Synexus and the Institute for Islamic Services,” Du Plooy said.

In addition, the metro’s environmental health and customer care department also shared information on caring for the environment. Attention was also given to customer care-related queries and utility bills.
