The city of Tshwane has rejected a “communique” that circulated this week warning residents of planned water interruptions in the east of Pretoria starting on Tuesday.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo assured residents that there were no such planned water supply interruptions.
“The circulated communique, which started doing the rounds yesterday (Monday), July 16 2018, is causing unnecessary panic to most residents staying east of Pretoria, and is devoid of truth,” he said.

“The city would like to inform its consumers that this is an old statement which was disseminated about two years ago, around August 2016. A bulk water pipeline was installed and there has since been no major water supply interruptions.”
The viral message was circulated mostly on this link: https://waternews.co.za/pretoria-face-2-days-without-water-iol/ but is not current news.
Mashigo urged consumers to be in contact with their ward councillors if they were not certain about service interruptions.
“The city will endeavour to communicate both planned and unplanned interruptions at all times to its customers. We apologise profusely for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the rumour-mongering,” he said.
