Kids’ art exhibit at Voortrekker Monument
People from all over the city, including teachers and parents, got to view the art by Pretoria’s exceptional young children.

Learners as young as five years old were given the chance to exhibit their artwork at a unique exhibition at the Voortrekker Monument this week.
The exhibition, which featured art by students ranging from grade R to grade 11, took place on Wednesday afternoon.
People from all over the city, including teachers and parents, got to view the art by Pretoria’s exceptional young children.
A few lucky learners’ works would be selected and would have the honour of being crowned top art student of their age group.
“I especially want to thank parents and teachers today,” said Jan van der Merwe, artist and art lecturer at the department of fine arts at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
“They have given their children the opportunity to be creative, draw, paint and sculpt what they want. I come from an era in which art teachers influenced you to adapt to their style, to express what they felt was beautiful.
“I’m happy to see that all artworks exhibited here today are all unique, and portray each and every student’s individual character and view of life.”
Karin Damon, a creative arts advisor from the Gauteng education department, thanked everybody involved in the exhibition possible.
“We have immense talents here today,” said Damon.
“I’m so thankful to Christo Rabie from the monument who made this opportunity possible. We have so much talent among our young ones in the country. I’m happy people are able to see what they have to offer.”
Visitors to the exhibition were also treated to some refreshments for the afternoon.
