Wihan Vermeulen was recently awarded the highest mark in a Level 1 Rockschool Exam for drumming in South Africa.
A young Lynnwood boy is relishing the prospect of one day becoming a world-famous musician.
Wihan Vermeulen was recently awarded the highest mark in a Level 1 Rockschool Exam for drumming in South Africa, 96 percent.
Wihan passed his Grade 1 exam in the Popular Music Performance category also with a distinction and hopes to achieve even more in the near future.

He told Rekord that his love for instruments and music started at the young age of four when he experimented with a keyboard.
“I use to accompany my elder sister to her music lessons and that is when I first got exposure to musical instruments. I was still young, so didn’t do much but took up keyboard when I could learn the melodies and understand the notes,” Wihan said.
Five years later, the Laerskool Lynnwood learner and wondrous talent decided to take up drumming lessons at Nu-Song, a local music, drama and art school, that also teaches public speaking, in June last year.

“My drumming coach, Yolande Steyn is probably the most talented drummer I have ever heard. She took me under her wing, and taught me everything I needed to know.”
Wihan also excels on the sports field having received SA colours for karate earlier this year and is also a good hockey player.
“I definitely do want to be in a band one day, but for now I’m just really happy to learn and improve on my technique,” Wihan concludes.
