LISTEN: Another breakthrough in Centurion house break-ins

During the early morning hours of Friday, the police arrested a man allegedly found in the possession of items suspected to be used in house break-ins.

Lyttelton police have scored another success in the fight against house break-in crimes in the Centurion area.

During the early morning hours of Friday, the police arrested a man allegedly found in the possession of items suspected to be used in house break-ins.

Spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the arrest was made during a crime prevention operation in Doringkloof.

“Members were alerted that two men in the area were acting suspiciously,” Miller said.

Police members together with private security companies responded without delay and the team managed to arrest one of the men. He will appear in court shortly on charges of possession of house break-in tools.”

He said the Lyttelton police management thanked all the members and individuals who assisted in apprehending the man.

“This is a clear indication that by working together we are able to close the net on the criminals operating in the Lyttelton area.”

The arrest came after the Lyttelton police arrested another man in Zwartkop on Thursday morning.

The man was fleeing the crime scene when he was struck by a vehicle.

Earlier this week, Miller issued a warning after police noticed an increase in the number of house break-ins in residential complexes.

He suggested keeping doors and windows locked, especially at night.

“If you become suspicious or hear anything out of the ordinary do not exit the property to investigate. Rather alert the security or authorities to ensure your safety.”
