A University professor has applauded Sunnyside police for their excellent service after he was assaulted and robbed at his home in Muckleneuk.
Gerhard van den Heever (61) said, “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the way in which police teams assisted me.”
What made him extremely joyous, he added, was the speedy manner in which the case was attended to, items that were stolen recovered and suspects apprehended.
“It is experiences like these that keep our faith in the South African Police Service alive,” he said.
Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said police had suspected four people were involved, however, as investigations proceeded, some were eliminated and released.
He said after eliminations, two suspects remained and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court two weeks ago.

However, a 19-year-old man was later released as he could not be linked to the crime, while a 36-year-old man remained in police custody.
Mavimbela said the remaining suspect was reportedly found in possession of some of the items that fitted the description of property stolen from the professor.
Police recovered a laptop, bank cards, about R5 000, believed to have been withdrawn from the victim’s bank account, and bottles of whisky.
The suspect has been charged with house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.
He is still in police custody and will appear in court on Wednesday for the third time.
It was initially alleged that two men were involved in the robbery and assault.
They were said to have walked into the house through a door the victim had left open for ventilation.
