A Pretoria man has been arrested after he opened a false hijacking case.
Police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma said the man claimed that his Ford Fiesta and a personal firearm were forcefully taken by three men during the hijacking in Pretoria West.
“He said one of the three hijackers was armed with a firearm,” she said,
[After the case was opened] Tshwane West Trio task team was immediately activated.“Shortly after, a truck containing Plasma TVs was hijacked in Pretoria CBD. Police followed up the information which led them to Atteridgeville where the truck and a firearm were recovered,” Vuma said.
One suspect was arrested.

“Through intelligent investigation, it was discovered that the man who opened the hijacking case in Pretoria West police station, is actually the owner of the firearm which was recovered at the scene in Atteridgeville.”
Vuma said it was later established that there was no Hijacking in Pretoria West and the firearm used in the truck hijacking in Pretoria CBD was allegedly given to the suspects to commit a crime.
A case of perjury, possession of hijacked truck was opened at Pretoria West police station.

Vuma said the man who opened a false case and his accomplice will remain behind bars.
Two more suspects involved in the hijacking are still on the run, she said.
Tshwane District Commissioner Thomas Mthombeni applauded members for their swift response which led to the arrest and recovery of the hijacked truck.
He further warned those who opened false cases with police to know that police will stop at nothing to make sure they are brought to book and criminally charged.
