Following weeks of neglect by the municipality, a resident tweeted photographs of Tshwane metro workers cleaning up a local park in Laudium on Monday afternoon.
This after the same resident earlier posted tweets in which he highlighted the poor state of the public park as well as sidewalks in the area.

“It’s a sad indictment on the metro,” said local community representative and anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee on Monday afternoon, when he tweeted a picture of the neglected park in Jet Street.
“It once again shows that service delivery is being neglected.”
“From the pictures I shared on social media it is clear that grass had not been cut for weeks. How can they expect our children and community to use the facilities under these conditions?”
Abramjee called on the premier of Gauteng to do an oversight visit to the area to ensure the metro “wakes up and improves service delivery”.

“Residents are getting fed up. We pay our rates monthly and then we are treated with contempt. This nonsense must come to an end.”
However, local ward councillor Mohammed Essop said all parks within Laudium were being neglected.
“All the parks in Laudium look like the one in Jet Street,” he said.
“I have told the metro about this since it started in June last year. Nothing is being done while we are told the metro has no budget to clean the parks.”
The metro would not respond to requests for comment by our time of going to press.
