Moot police worried about armed robberies

In a most recent case, a man was shot in the head by robbers.

Moot police expressed their concern over violent crimes in the area involving firearms, after a shop owner’s brother was shot in the head by an armed robber recently.

The man is in a serious condition in hospital, said police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.

“The owner and his brother were at their café when they were robbed by three men,” he said.

“One of the suspects were armed and wore a work overall. They were all carrying bags.”

“The robbers ordered the two brothers to lie on the ground, while they robbed them of their personal property such as cell phones, money and passports.”

Breedt said the robbers forced one of the brothers into a storeroom, demanding he open the safe.

“After the brother told him that the safe was not working, they began assaulting him,” said Breedt.

The robbers took a large number of cigarettes and a large undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

Breedt said after the criminals fled, one of the brothers heard a gunshot and found his brother in front of the shop with a gunshot wound to the head.

Breedt said these type of crimes were on the increase in their precinct.

He urged residents and business owners to be vigilant.
