It is almost a year later and still no arrests have been made in the case of a young Taxify driver who was burnt alive in the boot of his car, reportedly by rival taxi operators.
Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela confirmed yesterday no arrests had been made in the murder of Siyabonga Ngocobo.
The 21-year-old Tshwane University of Technology student’s charred remains were found inside the boot of his burnt-out Chevrolet Aveo near the Unisa Sunnyside campus on 1 March 2018.
It is believed the young Taxify driver was attacked by a group of meter-taxi operators when he picked up a customer from a church service in Arcadia.

An autopsy revealed Ngocobo was still alive when the attackers forced him into the boot of his vehicle and set it alight.
His aunt Nobuhle Mbonambi previously told Rekord the autopsy results showed he died from smoke inhalation.
At the time, Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said she would not rest until those responsible for the murder were behind bars.
“The culprits will be found – dead or alive,” she said.
“These bastards have taken his life just like that,” she added.
