
A house robbery in the north of Pretoria led to a police chase and shootout on Monday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said a house burglary took place in Besembesie Road around 14:30.
“The robbers entered the home and locked a 19-year-old man and the domestic worker in seperate rooms as they attempted to rob the house,” he said.

There was a knock at the door and as the would-be robbers opened the door, they saw a police vehicle parked outside.”
Van Dyk said the suspects jumped over a perimeter wall and stole a vehicle from one of the neighbours in an attempt to flee.

A police chase ensued between the police and the robbers towards Dr Van der Merwe Road, where the robbers abandoned the vehicle.
Van Dyk said shots were fired by the police, but no one was injured.
The vehicle was recovered, but the robbers managed to flee.
