Hundreds nabbed in west anti-crime sweep
The arrests followed several operations were held throughout the cluster.
More than 470 people were arrested in the Tshwane west policing cluster in the past week, the police have announced
Spokesperson Constable Simon Chokoe said held stop-and-searches, roadblocks, checked second-hand goods shops and visited illegal taverns, businesses and liquor outlets throughout the cluster.
Chokoe said the officers also focused on drugs.
“Suspects were arrested for various offences including murder, rape, theft, robberies, common and grievous bodily harm assault, possession of drugs, reckless and negligent driving, trespassing, dealing in drugs, housebreaking and theft and fraud.”

Chokoe said on Saturday morning, a 34-year-old man was nabbed for allegedly dealing in drugs in Pretoria West.
“Police received information of a suspected drug dealer from a resident while they were busy performing a stop-and-search operation in Court Street.
“Police acted swiftly on the information provided, which included the address,” he said.
“Upon searching the house, 279 bags of heroin were found and the suspect was immediately arrested for the possession of drugs.”
In another incident, a 67-year-old man was arrested in Pretoria West on Sunday, also for alleged possession of drugs.
“Police received information about a man selling drugs at a shop in Desmond Tutu Street, Lotus Gardens,” he said.
Chokoe said the police immediately followed up on the information.
“Upon searching the shop, a plastic bag containing rock drugs was found and the man was immediately arrested,” he said.

In a third incident, a 38-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly being in the possession of drugs.
“Police officers were on patrol in De Villiers Street, Danville.
“A woman was seen hiding something behind her back and upon searching her, drugs were found in her possession.”
The woman was immediately arrested.
Tshwane district commissioner Major-General Tommy Mthombeni applauded the officers for their swift response to the tip-off information.
