A swift and quick response by the police after a student reported that her boyfriend has been hijacked and kidnapped resulted in him being rescued.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said on Wednesday evening, 27 February around 22:30, a 29-year-old man was waiting in University Road in front of the University of Pretoria for his girlfriend who was at the library.
“Suddenly two unknown men approached his Volkswagen Polo and threatened him with a firearm,” said Weilbach.
“He was instructed to get into the back of the vehicle and to lie down on the backseat.”
She said the student happened to see how an unknown person drove off with her boyfriend’s vehicle and managed to quickly rush to the Brooklyn police station.

She was able to give detailed information and a description of her boyfriend’s vehicle.
“The police officers immediately contacted the vehicle tracking company to activate the hijacked vehicle’s tracking device.”
Back-up was called and the hijacked vehicle was tracked down in Mamelodi where it was found abandoned.
Weilbach said the boyfriend was found unharmed inside the boot where the suspects had put him. His personal belongings were stolen.
The suspects, however, managed to escape.
“Brooklyn police are investigating a hijacking case.”
Station commander Brigadier Kushie Nair said she was relieved that the man was found unharmed.
She commended all who were involved in rescuing the victim, saying that the incident showed that the police had dedicated and committed police officials who were prepared to serve and protect the community.
