Two brothers accused of committing a double murder of sisters, Dr Anna (43) and Mahlodi Moloto (39) during a house robbery in Garsfontein in 2017 were sentenced on Thursday.
Kondie Mndalakieze and Musa Phuri ambushed and held the family of five hostage in their home on Mias Street.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Nel said all five family members were stabbed repeatedly, but three victims survived.
“The two men were aged in their mid-thirties and were arrested in Vosloorus only a few days after the horrific incident; they have been in custody since,” he said.

“It was later confirmed the two suspects, who were charged with the murder of the two sisters, are in fact brothers.”
The two suspects were both charged with two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, one count of house robbery and 22 counts of theft.
Nel said the men were each handed life sentences for murder, 12 years for attempted murder, 15 years for house robbery and 22 years for theft.
“The accused will serve 123 years consecutive on above crimes.
“They are both to appear in the Cape Town High Court during May 2019 for similar charges.”

The station commander of Garsfontein police station, Colonel Kervin Solomons, commended all the members who were involved in the investigation and apprehension of the pair.
He said the members of Garsfontein police station would leave no stone unturned to protect the community and bring offenders to justice.
