North kids taught importance of good oral hygiene
Raising awareness on the importance of good oral health and its impact on general health and well-being is more relevant than ever, the organisers said.
Bright smiles and healthy gums were the order of the day as Raikana Primary School learners were taught the importance of good oral hygiene.
The educational campaign was a build-up to the world oral health day on 20 March.
A local oral care company conducted a free dental check for the grade 1 learners at the school on Monday.
Tina Lepan of Mentadent P said the programme worked in conjunction with the department of basic education and Unilever.

Lepan said many people in South Africa suffered from oral diseases.
“Therefore, raising awareness on the importance of good oral health and its impact on general health and well-being is more relevant than ever,” she said.
She said the theme for this year’s world oral health day was “live mouth smart” and celebrate healthy mouths at all ages.
“This year’s campaign focus has been all about empowering people to make smart choices for their mouths by adopting good oral hygiene habits, avoiding risk factors, and having a regular dental check-up from early in life to help maintain optimal oral health into old age,” she said.
She said a healthy mouth was important every day.
“A functional mouth is also important every day, especially as we get older.”
