SAPS, Tshwane metro take services to north communities

"Police assisted community members with various services including the issuing of affidavits and certifying of documents."

The Soshanguve SAPS and Tshwane metro joined hands on a community outreach at Bodibeng library in block BB on Tuesday to bring services to locals.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the outreach was geared at bringing various government services closer to township communities as guided by government’s Batho Pele principles.

Police assisted community members with various services including the issuing of affidavits and certifying of documents. The metro provided various service-delivery innovations to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of its services,” said Maluleka.

He said the campaign also conscientised the community about the prevalent crimes in the Rietgat policing precinct and urged the residents to speak out when confronted by suspicious characters.

A household profile analysis had revealed that many locals were unable to get to where the services were rendered because most were pensioners.

“Most children in the community do not have birth certificates and live with disability but not in special schools, while there is high rate of drug abuse. Unemployment is rife and there is lack of knowledge about HIV/Aids.

“As a short-term intervention, the two stakeholders co-ordinated all partners to take services to the people of Soshanguve.

“The Rietgat SAPS will continue to work with the city of Tshwane to in make sure that the citizenry receives first class service from the public servants,” Maluleka said.

The community was also urged to spread the word about the weekly campaign so that more people can be assisted.
