The Tshwane metro has vowed to attend to a pothole-ridden street in Akasia, north of Pretoria this week.
“The pothole will be attended to before the end of this week,” spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.
This follows after Rekord enquired if the metro was aware that frustrated resident Marius du Plessis was ready to repair the road himself then bill the metro.

“I will now go ahead and fix the potholes myself and send an invoice to the municipality for the cost of the work done,” Du Plessis told Rekord adding he had grown tired of the lack of action from the metro.
He said the metro had not done anything about the potholes after his several complaints.
“Nothing has been done.”
Although Du Plessis had planned to spring to action on Friday, he has now halted his plan to give the metro an opportunity to fix the holey road.
“If I do the work myself, the invoice will be handed over to our attorneys to ensure collection [from the metro],” he said.
Mashigo said residents could undertake the repair work “if done according to our norms and standards”.

“All the work has to be carried out as per the City of Tshwane bylaw for working in a public road reserve.”
