One resident said he had even taken steps to repair the potholes himself then bill the metro after several of his complaints were allegedly ignored.

The Tshwane metro delivered on its promise to repair a pothole-ridden road in Akasia after months of complaining by a frustrated resident.

“The potholes were fixed,” an elated Marius du Plessis told Rekord.

“They did the best work I have seen in a long time.”

He said would have repairs the potholes, then hire a law firm to send his bill to the metro to ensure collection.

“Nothing was done to resolve the issue for a long time,” Du Plessis said.

The metro repaired the pothole days after promising to Rekord that the work would be done before the end of last week.

“The pothole will be attended to before the end of this week,” spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.

Mashigo said members of the public could carry out their own repairs as long as they were in line with the metro’s norms and standards.

“All the work has to be carried out as per the city of Tshwane by-law for working in public road reserve.”

Last year, Mashigo said the metro received a total of 141 pothole complaints from the regions.

“To date, 83 which equals to 58%, have been attended to,” he said at the time.

He said the metro had experienced problems with obtaining a necessary component for repairing the holes.

“We had a challenge of a supply of asphalt from external service provider hence there was a backlog of 90 complaints from May 2018, however, a cold mix asphalt is available and priority in terms of work allocation is given to repairing potholes.”

Last year, Mashigo said preference was given to all potholes. “We register potholes per street and when we dispatch a team we focus on the entire street depending on the extent of damage and the length of the streets.
