GALLERY: Night of accomplishments takes place at art exhibition

A host of other spectacular artists were also present at the exhibition, bringing along their loved ones to view their artworks.

It was an evening of delight, excellence and celebration when a group of highly talented artists exhibited their black and white photography portraits of nature at the Artbox Gallery and Frames in Monument Park.

“Two significant people we would like to honour tonight is 80-year-old Hannie Roux and 77-year-old Reneé Hamman, who has come a long way since starting their journey in the arts. These two ladies are having their very first art exhibition tonight, with a whole room filled with only their paintings,” said Etienne van Zyl, owner of the gallery to a host of family and friends who attended the exhibition.

Both ladies attended the old technikon (Tshwane University of Technology today) and obtained degrees in graphic design/art. Only after working somewhat, and having families of their own did they start to actively paint when they were already retired.

“Both of us like to paint portraits of flowers, there are a few that differ, but that was the theme of the night after all, nature. We are both very proud of what we accomplished and are happy to be sharing this experience with our families and friends,” said Hannie and Reneé.

A host of other spectacular artists were also present at the exhibition, bringing along their loved ones to view their artworks.

Charlaine Gerber has exceptional talent in what can only be described as a creative marriage of drawing and photography.

Both photographers Francois Venter and Peet van den Berg have perfectly captured their journeys through Scotland and South Africa with brilliance, and have just as many stories to tell about each picture and each experience.

The youngest photographer on the night David Copeland explained how he still develops his pictures in a dark room, as he very quickly in his career got tired of the clean look in digital pictures.

“I had my training at the Alternative Print Workshop and can without a doubt say that it changed my life. I don’t view digital photography the same as others, I have a tremendous love of photographs that contain images of steam which can only be captured to my satisfaction the old, traditional way” he said.
