Laudium learners educated about safety, human trafficking
One of the major lessons we taught the learners was never to accept any gifts or lift from strangers.
Learners at Andrew Anthony Primary School in Laudium were given tips and basics on how to protect themselves when faced with danger.
Several non-government organisations and welfare bodies banded together with the police to hold an awareness campaign at the school for grades R, 1 and 2 learners on on Wednesday.
Laudium police spokesperson Constable Simon Chokoe said it was important among others, for learners to be taught about human trafficking.

“Police demonstrated to learners how they could protect themselves against human trafficking. One of the major lessons we taught the learners was never to accept any gifts or lift from strangers. If the learners find themselves in that position with a stranger, we encouraged them to scream as loud as possible.”
Chokoe said it was important for learners to know their parents’ contact details by heart or at least have them in their school bags.
Learners were told that police were not their enemies.but their friends and that they should act strongly against gangsterism, fighting and any crime around the schools.
