Voortrekker Eeufees hit by double tragedy

The school lost one of its long-serving workers who went on pension earlier this year and a grade 1 learner at the weekend.

Double tragedy struck a Pretoria North primary school this week when one of its learners and a former worker died.

“It’s not a good week for the school,” Voortrekker Eeufees Primary School principal Gerhard Claassen told Rekord.

He said the school lost one of its long-serving workers who went on pension earlier this year and a grade 1 learner at the weekend.

“Thomas Rangane had problems with his health,” Claassen said.

He said Rangane worked at the school for around 25 years before retiring at the end of January.

“He was at the school two weeks ago,” Claassen said.

Claassen said the school was dealt another blow when grade 1 learner Thapelo Moekoa’s family informed him he passed away in an accident on Sunday.

“Thapelo and his father were coming back to Pretoria from Johannesburg,” he said.

Claassen said he immediately got people to break the news about Moekoa’s death to his fellow classmates and notified their parents.

“He was one of the sweetest and most wonderful of children.”

Rangane’s funeral service was set to be held at the weekend while details around Moekoa’s memorial service and funeral were yet to be finalised.
