Pretoria West police recently raided a primary school in the area for dangerous weapons, it said.
“We focused on, as per information by the school principal’s request, dangerous weapons and e-cigarettes learners smuggle into the school,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.
She the raid, which was held on Friday, focused specifically on Grade 6 and 7 learners.

Eight classes were searched and two items were confiscated from a learner.
“These included a screwdriver and a cigarette lighter,” Vuma said.
“The teacher took the items into safe-keeping for evidence to show to the parent what was found in the learner’s possession.”
Police also held patrols in the area to increase their visibility.
“About 80 pamphlets on domestic violence and common assaults were handed out to locals in Elandspoort,” she said.

“The community was happy to see officers in blue take time to inform them on steps to take when reporting such crimes.”
Vuma said the contact details of the station and other relevant contacts were handed out to residents.
