The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is need of blood donors to increase their declining stock.
The blood bank has a stock of just 5 days with platelets that will last less than a day.
According to the organisation, fewer than 1 % of the country’s population are blood donors.
The blood bank aims to collect 3000 units of blood per day to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply in the health care system.
One unit can save a minimum of three lives and donors can give blood as often as every eight weeks.
People are urged to do their part by visiting their nearest donation centre.

Employers can also host blood drives for the convenience of staff members.
