UPDATE: Autistic east girl’s death remains a mystery

Katlego Joja’s (10) lifeless body was found floating in the Moretele river more than a year ago.

It has been more than a year since the death of an autistic 10-year old girl, Katlego Joja but circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery.

Katli as she was affectionately known, went missing from her home in Mamelodi West section D4 on 26 April 2018.

Her concerned family took to the streets and social media in search of the little girl.

Their search ended less than two weeks later when her lifeless body was found floating in the Moretele river.

Her uncle, Thabiso Storom said the family was yet to know what led to her death as they were still waiting for the autopsy results from the police.

“It’s a year down the line and we still don’t know what happened,” he said adding that the family was not aware of any developments in the case.

“Not knowing is bugging us.”

Storom said even though knowing what happened would not bring the girl back, the family would get some closure.

He said the family was still struggling to come to terms with her death.

“We are still trying to cope with her death.

“On the anniversary of her death we just got together as a family. We did nothing specific, being together was what mattered.”

Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said the police could no longer comment on the matter but did not explain why.
