The Loate police are searching for a hitch-hiker who could be linked to the fatal shooting of a former councillor in the north of Pretoria.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said on Tuesday a 47-year-old man was shot dead and “preliminary reports indicate he gave a lift to some community members in Winterveldt”.

He said it was alleged that the man stopped for what appeared to be another hitch-hiker, who allegedly fired at the driver multiple times at close range before fleeing.
“The wounded man was rushed to a nearby local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival.”
Masondo appealed for witnesses to bring any information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect to the police.
Information can be reported anonymously on the crime stop number 08600-10111, or by visiting/calling Loate police station.
