Atteridgeville police are searching for a man who went on a robbery rampage on Tuesday evening, killing a victim by shooting him in his genitals.
The suspect first robbed a young couple of their cellphones before also robbing a nearby salon, said police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.
Two people were shot in the robbing spree, one of them fatally.
“Around 20:00 on Tuesday, the young couple was forced to stop by a man with a firearm,” said Rikhotso.

Rikhotso said it was believed the robber was between 20 and 25 years old.
“The suspect told the two to stay quiet while he took their cellphones,” she said.
“He then shot the man in the right thigh.”
However, it did not end there, Rikhotso said.
“The suspect continued his robbing spree at a nearby salon where he found two women and five men,” she said.
She said the man also robbed them off their cellphones.

“After he took nine cellphones, he shot one of the men at the salon,” she said.
Rikhotso said the man sustained injuries on his right thigh and genitalia.
She said he later succumbed to his injuries at Kalafong hospital, where he was taken for treatment with the other person shot.
“We ask residents to keep their eyes peeled so that all information could be relayed to the police so that this gun-wielding maniac could be brought to justice,” she said.
“It is, however, advisable that this suspect is not approached by residents as he is very dangerous.”
She said working together would yield positive results.
“Criminals need to be brought to book to ensure that the safety of the community is secured,” she said.
“The community of Jeffsville and Phomolong are encouraged to keep their eyes open.”
