Wonderboompoort police are asking for residents’ help after they found a fully developed foetus last week.
The grisly discovery was made in Green Street on Friday morning after police received calls from local residents, said police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane.
“Residents and informal garbage collectors informed us about the foetus,” he said.
“When our police officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the foetus in a garbage bin.”

Zwane said the foetus was wrapped in a blanket.
He said police had opened a case.
“We need the community’s help in finding the foetus’ parents,” he said.
“If you know of someone who was pregnant and is not anymore, with no baby to show, then please let us know immediately.”
He also encouraged the foetus’ parents to come forward.
“Although abortion is legal in South Africa, we encourage residents to make use of proper facilities when they do so,” he said.
Wonderboompoort police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Matume Mabale also asked the public to help find the parents.
