Horse riding initiative benefits east abuse victims

Children had the opportunity to touch and ride horses as part of a fundraiser.

Mamelodi children had the chance to ride and interact with horses this Saturday as part of a fundraiser for disadvantaged families and schoolgirls.

They were attending the mass horse ride against women, children and drug abuse campaign organised by the Invincible U-turn Ranch.

The event was held at the central sports ground in Mamelodi West and started at 10:00 until late.

Peter Selolo, founder of Invincible U-turn Ranch, said the aim of the event was to collect food parcels and sanitary pads for disadvantaged families and schoolgirls.

He said the food parcels were immediately delivered to three disadvantaged families in Mamelodi West.

Selolo said the event started with aerobics as part of promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The mass horse ride is an annual event and started last year July in the second week of the month.

“There were 12 horses supplied by the Tshwane metro and Invincible U-turn Ranch and children also got a chance to learn more about horses,” said Selolo.

“We also invited other stakeholders on the day to have talks with children about drugs.”

Stakeholders encouraged the children to start doing something about their lives and to stay away from drugs and substance abuse and participate in sports.

Selolo said the sanitary pads would also be donated to the identified schools in the far east of Mamelodi and also to the girls at Makhulong orphanage.

He advised children of Mamelodi to participate in sport because they have lots of talent and those who are interested in horse-riding to contact him.

He said there are lots of opportunities in the horse-riding industry and advised the children to come on board.

He concluded by pleading with the public, who are still willing to donate more sanitary pads and food parcels, to contact him.
