Madiba race attracts hundreds

“We are so happy to see so many people arriving for this race,” says Atterbury Value Mart marketing team member, Rozanne Hartze.

In commemoration of the 10th International Nelson Mandela Day on Thursday, 18 July, many came out to brace the icy cold weather on Saturday morning to participate in the annual Long Walk/Run to Freedom road race.

Families and friends in the east of Pretoria came together at Atterbury Value Mart to celebrate Madiba Day in the chilly weather, with many wrapped up in blankets, scarves and beanies.

“We are so happy to see so many people arriving for this race,” says Atterbury Value Mart marketing team member, Rozanne Hartze.

“Our entire team of marketing staff have come with our families to show our support and love for the late Madiba.”

People could partake in either a 5km, 10km or 21km route, with traffic officials stationed at various intersections across the Faerie Glen area.

“We invite people in and around the area to come out and cheer on the athletes next to the road, as it is cold and it is all done in the name of charity and goodwill; and we will be celebrating our late president, who changed our country for the better, every step of the way,” Hartze concludes.
