UPDATE: Cancer diagnosed toddler doing “well”
The toddler's tumour was removed in an 11 hour-long surgery on 9 April 2019.
The two-year-old toddler diagnosed with neuroblastoma is doing well just months after the cancerous tumour was removed in a lengthy surgery in April.
“Teagan is doing remarkably well,” the toddler’s mother Maggie van Wyk said.
Van Wyk said Teagan was now receiving radiation treatment for any possible cancer that could be left after the surgery.
“He still has eight sessions left to go.”

Despite the treatment, she said there was still a lengthy road ahead.
“When the radiation is complete, he will still receive maintenance chemo for another year,” Van Wyk said.
“He might even be going back to theatre later this year to have his port removed.”
The toddler was diagnosed with the cancer in October last year and started on chemotherapy the following month.
His tumour was removed in an 11-hour-long surgery on 9 April 2019.

According to the Cancer Association of South Africa, neuroblastoma is a solid cancerous tumour that begins in the nerve cells of infants and young children.
“It can start in the nerve tissue near the spine in the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis, but it most often begins in the adrenal glands.”
