North residents urged to instal burglar bars to enhance security

The recent cases of house burglaries are disturbing and worrying.

Rietgat police have encouraged residents, especially those who are building new homes or renovating, not only to instal aluminium doors and windows, but to also add burglar bars.

Captain Stephens Maluleka said police have noticed a high number of house robberies and burglaries within the precinct.

“The entry was mainly gained through these windows and doors. Most recently, a couple in Block Y was robbed at gunpoint of property to the value of R105 000, including a motor vehicle,” said Maluleka.

Maluleka urged households to consider installing burglar bars to make it difficult for illegal entry and to deter criminals.

“It should also be noted that this alert is purely aimed at combating crime and not to discredit business people or welders from producing these products in question,” he said.

Maluleka said that the recent cases of house robberies and burglaries were “disturbing and worrying”.

“It is our duty as the police to inform the community about the latest crime trends and how to curb it.”

He warned the community to stay calm and cooperate in case of a robbery, as the robbers are usually armed.

Maluleka urged residents not to touch or move anything after a robbery.

“This is to prevent important evidence from getting destroyed.”
