First responders practice saving lives

The simulation was part of a week-long course aimed to strengthen the capacity of first responders, forensic practitioners and disaster managers to manage mass casualties.

Sixty-first responders and disaster management professionals on Wednesday participated in a three-hour emergency simulation at Wonderboom National Airport.

The simulation was held to prepare the respondents and disaster management teams for large-scale emergencies such as Cyclone Idai.

“The simulation shows the importance of well-coordinated regional and continental partnerships to saving lives and minimizing casualties during natural and human-made disasters,” said International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) forensic specialist Neil Morris.
