Sosh maths boffin man offers free lessons
Vusi Bilankulu, who specialises in mathematics is offering free lessons to learners in Soshanguve.
A Soshanguve resident is so eager to help local learners improve their maths marks that he is offering free tutorials and lessons under the banner of his educational company, Edutainment.
“The company’s goal is to produce a generation of lifelong learners, by instilling study skills that promote critical analysis and independence,” said Vusi Bilankulu.
He told Record that he began offering tutoring services while he was still in high school.
“I began tutoring in grade 11 because so many of my fellow classmates needed help,” said Bilankulu.
“In the end, I wound up tutoring whole groups.”

He said he continued doing this during his university years when he helped grade 11 and 12 learners at his former school.
Born and raised in Soshanguve, the 29-year-old studied actuarial science at the University of Pretoria, receiving honours in mathematical statistics.
“After passing matric in 2007, I furthered my studies at the University of Pretoria from 2008 to 2011. In 2016, I received a Master’s degree in mathematical studies. I am currently studying towards a PhD in mathematical statistics,” said Bilankulu.
He said he was willing to share his knowledge with learners from grades 10, 11, 12, and with the national certificate vocational (NCV) students at tertiary.
“I want to give back to the community and about a month ago I started this tutoring program,” he said.
“I offer one-on-one sessions in my home at Soshanguve Block H. For group sessions, students invite me to various high schools. We also have a WhatsApp group where students regularly post questions and answers,” said Bilankulu

“I can either teach a learner the concepts of mathematics, preferably for 90 minutes; or I can train a learner for exam techniques on how to answer a question during the exam for 60 minutes.”
Bilankulu said he currently has a group of about 40 students in both mathematics and mathematical literacy and he wished the group could grow and get more students who needed his services.
