North man accused of killing stepson (7)

"He went straight to the tree where he dumped the body," said Maluleka.

WA 32-year-old Soshanguve man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping and killing his stepson, aged seven.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the man strangled and gagged the boy to death with a piece of cloth.

Maluleka said the man fetched the boy from school without informing the mother.

“When the child’s transport driver went to fetch him from school, he could not find him at the school. He alerted the mother,” said Maluleka.

He said the mother rushed to the Rietgat police station to open a missing person’s case.

“During the search, the grandmother called the police and told them that the stepfather called and confessed to her that he had kidnapped and killed the child and threw his body in the bushes between blocks X and Y,” said Maluleka.

Maluleka said the suspect was later cornered and arrested by the community who called the police.

“He was then taken to the bushes to point out where he said he had left the boy. He claimed he could not remember the tree he had tied the boy to since it was dark.

“The search reconvened on Wednesday morning, and he went straight to the tree where he dumped the body,” said Maluleka.

The suspect was due to appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
