Pretoria Dog Rescue hosted a dog walk at the Smuts House in Irene on Sunday morning.

Dog lovers braced the morning breeze to bring their dogs for a walk at the Smuts House in Irene on Sunday.

The walk, organised by Pretoria Dog Rescue, aimed to raise funds in order to help dogs receive food, veterinary care and other necessity.

“Pretoria Dog Rescue is a registered non-profit company and helps to assist with the number of stray, neglected, abused, homeless and suffering dogs in our country,” said Pretoria Dog Rescue director, Liezel Prinsloo.

“During the past year, we rehomed many dogs that would have had a very uncertain future without our help.”

She said the organisation is completely dependent on donations and sponsors.

“At the moment, we rent kennels because we cannot afford to have our own. We have so many dogs that are desperate for care and protection.

“In some cases, some are dumped and often injured, and we need to take them in and send them to the vet,” she said.

Prinsloo said dog walk events help raise funds which give the animals a second chance.

“We have another dog walk on 13 October here and before that, there is also a fun day at the Pretoria High School Old Boys Hockey Club on 1 September.”
