UPDATE: brother in denial after sister dies in Moot crash

Züné Voster died when her car and a bus collided on the corner of Soutpansberg and Steve Biko roads on Friday morning.

The brother of a 39-year-old Equestria woman who died in a vehicle accident admitted he was still in denial over his sister’s death.

Züné Vorster died when her car and a bus collided on the corner of Soutpansberg and Steve Biko roads on Friday morning. “It has still not sunk in,” said Dawie Keyser

Keyser said he and his sister had left home for work the morning of the accident, which happened a few minutes after the woman had dropped her two daughters off at school.

“My father was in the Free State when he received a call from the police who informed him about the accident,” he said, adding he had rushed to the scene when his father passed the message on to him.

“When I got there, I ran to her, screaming her name. I sat next to her and her eyes were still open and I touched her; she was ice cold.”

Vorster sustained head injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

Keyser said the mother of two girls had “a heart for people”.

“She also loved fashion and malls,” he said.

Keyser said before his sister left the house that morning, she had come into his room to say goodbye which she had never done before.

“We were close and shared a lot.”

He said he had been recovering well from their mother’s suicide five years ago, and which had a huge impact on him.

“My life was a mess and just as I was starting to get things together, this happened,” he said.

“My sister and I had plans together. We were already planning for the summer and preparing the garden for the braai season.”

Vorster was an award-winning sales representative.

“Four years in a row she won the best sales rep at a company she worked for. We were so proud of her.”

Vorster was hardly two months in her new job when she died.

On the same spot a month ago, 25-year-old Kayla Burger had broken a pelvic bone and arm when her vehicle collided with a bus.

She later died in hospital.

Keyser said the area needed designated lanes for buses to avoid such accidents.

“Buses should have their lanes, so the area can be better managed,” he said.

Facebook tributes have since been pouring in for Züné.

Vorster will be cremated after a service in her home town Kroonstad, in the Free State, on Friday.

“I deeply love her and will miss her a lot,” he said.

“I find consolation in the words that one of her friends told us, namely that God always picks his best flowers.”

Her two daughters, aged 5 and 9, will be in the care of their father.
