Moot woman killed on Women’s day mourned
Jo-Anita Schulz of The Orchards was shot dead by her husband of 10 years on 9 August in a murder-suicide.

A Pretoria family is mourning the death of a beloved north resident who recently died.
Jo-Anita Schulz from The Orchards, or “Nita” as everyone called her, was shot dead on 9 August by her husband in a murder-suicide.
She and her husband, Thomas, had been married for about 10 years, said her sister Priscilla van der Westhuizen.
“We still can’t believe it. What makes it even worse is that the incident happened on Women’s Day,” she said.
“Their 12-year-old son saw everything and ran outside for help.”

Two neighbours came to his assistance.
“They helped get Nita to the hospital, where she died not long after,” she said.
Jo-Anita’s cremation service took place on Friday at the Old Apostolic Church in Pretoria Gardens.
“My parents have been living in Malie Street, west of Pretoria, for the last 20 years and this is where we grew up,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“This is my parents’ third child they had lost.”
She said of their three daughters and two sons, they had lost two daughters and a son.
Van der Westhuizen described her sister as bubbly.
“She was a lovely person,” she said.
Her cousin, Su-Ann Trichardt, described her as someone who always made her feel good.
“Nita was my daily anti-depressant,” she said.

To honour Jo-Anita, as well as other women in similar situations, a gathering will be held this Saturday, east of Pretoria.
“I’m a motivational speaker, but I worked in the crime industry for 32 years,” said organiser Pixie Pink.
“Women and domestic violence are my passion.”
“Initially, I only planned a motivational day for a few women, but after the case with Jo-Anita, I decided to hold something in honour of her and other women in similar situations.”
Pink said people who attend the event must wear white and pink.
“They also need to bring a flower and a candle,” she said.
Domestic violence will be discussed during the meeting.
“Many women do not know what to do if they are involved in such a situation,” she said.
“It’s my goal to guide them and show them what to do.”
The Akasia police said they were investigating a case of murder and suicide.
