Local book drive to help many
The book drive was a huge success with many people donating unwanted books to help underprivileged children.

The Donate-a-Book campaign by Rekord in association with SPAR and the South African National Book Development Council recently culminated in hundreds of unused or unwanted books being collected with a promise to put a smile on a child’s face.
The books will be handed over to children in schools in Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.
The drive was inspired by National Books Week’s celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the hashtag #readbecause trending on various social media platforms to explain why reading for pleasure was so important.

The #readbecause campaign was born out of the need for society to collaborate to grow the culture of reading for leisure in South Africa.
Capital Media Group Editor Sunette Visser expressed her gratitude: “It is wonderful to see how the communities of Pretoria came together and donated so many books for the less privileged children.

“I read because the pages of a book are my portal to other worlds. Reading makes the possibility of wondrous worlds a reality for me.”
The parties involved would sincerely like to thank all the people who donated.
