North mobile library helps promote reading
Mobile library helps promote and nurture the love of reading to Soshanguve residents.
Soshanguve resident Khutso Swafo is determined to nurture and promote the love of reading among children through her organisation Khutso Parks and Read.
The 30-year-old is passionate and dedicated to give children a platform to express themselves through reading.
Khutso Parks and Read was established April, after Swafo managed to collect books for her mobile library.
The mobile library takes turns visiting recreational parks in Soshanguve every Saturday to give children an opportunity to read in all 11 official languages.
“A colleague at work managed to donate a number of books and the mobile library also obtained books from Cambridge Food store,” said Swafo.

Swafo told Rekord that she was not concerned about attendance but rather that the children that came had their life changed “because a child that can read well performs better academically”.
She said that reading groomed children’s character and how they saw things and interacted with people.
“Children easily interact with each other, despite their various backgrounds, and it enables them to develop social skills with fellow children in their age group,” said Swafo.
She said she wanted to spark an interest of reading and writing.
“It allows children to know that they can also be able to be what they aspire to be no matter the circumstances. Each child has their own talent and are unique in their own way. Mostly they help one another while reading, and it helps to build their self-confidence,” said Swafo.
