Local tavern a headache for community
A tavern in the north of Pretoria is a hideout for criminals and has prostitutes operating from it, local residents say.

Another person was declared dead last week Friday after he was last seen at a so-called “problem” tavern in the Honingnestkrans area north of Pretoria.
At around 5:30am on 4 October local CPF, police and emergency services were called to Hoep-hoep Street after a vehicle overturned, leaving one person dead.
There were four people in the car at the time of the accident.
“The tavern is a big problem,” Wayne Alberts, a member of the local community, said.
Alberts said the tavern was not only a hideout for criminals who targeted the area, but was also a brothel.
Alberts said it was the second fatality this year involving patrons who had left the tavern.
Earlier this year three people died in a similar accident.
Alberts says the prostitution at the tavern is also a big problem. There are allegedly about 20 prostitutes operating from the tavern.

“When you drive past the tavern the prostitutes flash you as you pass,” he said.
“We have searched the tavern to find stolen items such as borehole pumps and TV’s hidden in the facility. We have even found a stolen motorcycle at the tavern,” Alberts explained.
He said on many occasions when house robbers or burglars fled on foot their prints led straight to the tavern.
“The activities are especially high around payday and weekends,” he added.
