
More than six hundred people were arrested during a joint high-density crime prevention operation in Pretoria over the weekend.
SAPS joined forces with Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic and National Traffic to address transit crimes, said police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
Selepe said crimes such as detection of stolen vehicles, drugs, unlawful possession of fire-arms were amongst crimes addressed.
“Suspects were arrested for various offences such as rape, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, burglary business, possession of unlicensed firearm, assault GBH, public drinking, theft out of motor vehicle and others,” Selepe said.

“Following various roadblocks and crime combating operations, in Tshwane 2400 vehicles searched, 8000 people searched, Aarto tickets issued 190, 1 man was arrested with fraudulent driver’s license, 2 contraventions of Petroleum Act and one assault on police officer.”
Meanwhile, the festive Season operation Okae Molao kicked started in Mabopane and Rietgat areas on Saturday.
Selepe said eight illegal liquor outlets were closed down and fines for Liquor Act Contravention were also issued.
“Four suspects [were] arrested for possession of drugs.”
Eight other suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In Pretoria West two people were arrested for possession of stolen motor vehicle that was reported stolen in Lyttelton in August.

Selepe said Tshwane North Crime Intelligence together with members of Narcotics Unit conducted intelligence operations that led to the arrests of three suspects aged 26, 35 and 30 for dealing in drugs in Soshanguve.
“Tshwane SAPS management were grateful to the crime combating iniatives and will be conducting unannounced visits and multidisciplinary operations during this festive season.
All suspects have scheduled to appear at various magistrate courts in Tshwane.
