East woman plays Santa to Karoo farmers’ wives
Plight of the women in the Karoo touched Waterkloof Ridge resident's heart, prompting her to start the shoe box project.

A Pretoria east resident has opened her heart and is collecting goodies to spoil farmers’ wives in the Karoo.
Founder of the Jump Foundation Charity in Waterkloof Ridge in the east of Pretoria, Cornémari Viljoen called on the community to help her put together spoil-shoeboxes for the Karoo farmers’ wives.
“There are so many boxes here, it feels like they are going to suck me in. Now I just need to start packing them,” Viljoen said.
Viljoen has managed to fill 30 boxes and anticipates another 150.
She got the idea when she saw the Paarl farmers’ wives shoebox project in Wellington and decided to start her own.
“I have been to the Karoo about six times in the past four years, and I have seen with my own eyes how the drought has affected those farmers,” Viljoen said

“The humble and faithful people of the Karoo have stolen my heart. These shoe boxes are through and through spoil boxes for the farmers’ wives. Anything from lotion, soap, chocolates, books and even wine are put into the spoil boxes. I want the woman to feel special and appreciated when they open the shoe box filled with spoils,” Viljoen said.
The boxes must be wrapped and packed by 4 November. Viljoen will then personally drive to Victoria in the Karoo where she will hand out the boxes at various ladies’ tea function.
She will start in Victoria West, then got to Vosburg and Loxton to finish in Victoria West.
Cornemari Viljoen may be contacted on 082-653-1432.
