Pta dam levels low in spite of rain

Dam levels remain low despite recent rains in the province, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in Gauteng has warned.

Dam levels remain low despite recent rains in the province, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in Gauteng has warned.

The department has called on residents to continue using water sparingly as the province continues to experience soaring temperatures.

In a press release, the department indicated the provincial dam levels are at 85.3 % this week, a slight drop compared to the same period last week at 85.6%.

A weekly report by the department suggests that the situation is stable despite hot weather conditions.

Nearly all the dams in the province are decreasing, but others are floating above 100%.

For instance, the Bon Accord Dam has this week recorded 107.2%, a slight decrease compared to 109.6% last week.

Bronkhorstspruit Dam, east of Pretoria, has shown stability from last week’s levels, maintaining a decent 75.5% this week. The dam stood at 95.8% in the same week last year.

Rietvlei Dam has declined slightly as it currently stands at 83.7%.

Roodeplaat Dam is stable at 91.7%, although it has dropped slightly compared to last week’s 92.3%.
