Department investigating Laudium school fight

In a video posted to social media by community activist, Yusuf Abramjee earlier this week, the two can be seen fighting outside the school.

The Gauteng department of education is investigating a fight between two Laudium secondary school learners that emerged on social media recently.

In a video posted to social media by community activist, Yusuf Abramjee earlier this week, the two can be seen fighting outside the school.

“I posted the video immediately after receiving it,” he said.

He said the violence among learners was “worrying”.

“Urgent interventions need to be made to educate learners and parents on the problem,” he said.

“The time is now for us to work together to put a stop to this issue.”

Department spokesperson, Steve Mabona said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The investigation will assist us to take decisive action accordingly,” he said.

He added, however, that because schools closed on Tuesday due to Covid-19 outbreak and would only open next month, it would be difficult to continue the investigation.

“As soon as the school reopens, the matter will be finalised,” he said.

“It is regrettable that such an incident occurred in our environment.”
