Being a plus-size woman is a beautiful thing
She started her journey as a plus-size model nine years ago and today she is a motivational speaker.

Rejoice Monchusi (38), a plus-size Nellmapius model and motivational speaker has encouraged plus-size women never to give up and be proud of their size.
She said her career gives her an opportunity to show people that “beautiful doesn’t only come in small sizes but big people can also be beautiful.”
She said she started her journey as a plus-size model nine years ago and today she is a motivational speaker.
“When I started, I wanted to show people that you can be big and beautiful,” said Monchusi.
“Me being a plus-size woman it’s a beautiful thing,” she said.
She added she used this platform to motivate many plus-size women in her life.
“I encouraged a lot of people especially plus-size women not to give up in life and that they can be anything they want to be in life.
“You should be confident and love yourself no matter what people say. Most big people have low self-esteem.”
However, she said she was testimony to that the only way one can be happy is to love themselves first and feel good.
She was recently honoured with a lifetime achiever award for best plus-size model and also represented the country at fashion shows in Botswana and Swaziland.
She has also modelled at Soweto, Tshwane and Mpumalanga fashion weeks.
“The message that I can give to other women and young girls is to appreciate yourself.”
Her advice was to work hard and do your best in everything that you do and most importantly never give up.
“Don’t listen to negative people,” she said.
This year Monchusi will be representing South Africa at Thick Queens shows in Mpumalanga, Botswana, Lesotho and Mozambique fashion weeks.
