Rietgat police soccer team scoops district league title
A 38-match campaign ends in celebration as police officers swap their boots for silver silverware in Tshwane.

The Rietgat South African Police Service (SAPS) soccer team won the Tshwane District Soccer League 2025/26 title following a campaign marked by teamwork, discipline and determination.
The tournament began in September 2025 and featured 20 teams competing in 38 matches across Tshwane.
Under the guidance of Sergeant Peter Hendrick Ramongane, the Rietgat team maintained consistent performance throughout the competition to secure the championship trophy.

The team overcame several competing SAPS station teams, demonstrating sportsmanship and commitment to secure the title.
Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said the achievement reflected the players’ dedication and highlighted the importance of building unity among police members.
“The team has demonstrated that teamwork, discipline and commitment can produce excellent results,” said Van Dyk.
“Their victory is a proud moment for SAPS Rietgat and highlights the positive role sporting activities play in strengthening relationships among members.”
Station commander Brigadier Devan Govender praised the players’ sportsmanship, unity and determination throughout the tournament.

Govender said the victory demonstrated what could be accomplished through dedication and a shared vision.
He encouraged the players to maintain their high standards and continue representing the station with distinction, both on the sporting field and in their service to the community.
He added that sporting activities within the police service promote physical fitness, boost morale, strengthen teamwork, and foster cohesion among members.
Govender extended his appreciation to everyone who supported and encouraged the team during the competition, noting that their contribution reflected the unity and camaraderie within the station.
Van Dyk said the championship marked a significant sporting achievement for Rietgat SAPS, with the team earning recognition for its consistent performance against other stations in the district.
“The victory also underscores how sport can bring police members together around a common goal while encouraging discipline, co-operation and healthy competition,” he said.
