Safety tips to protect you during lockdown
Local security company warns of the threats that might arise as people are self-isolating.
A local security company has warned residents of the possible dangers during the lockdown and given tips to help curb crime.
“For many South Africans right now the impact of the global Covid-19 virus is almost unbearable as people find themselves contained in their homes and at a complete lockdown as they await a cure,” company director and spokesperson for GAC Risk Solutions said.
“One thing is for certain, we are a strong nation and we will not let our differences demolish our hope or derail the future of this country. We will always be facing challenges when it comes to protecting what is important to us.”
Du Plessis said not only do we have to protect ourselves from this global outbreak but there are also other potential threats that may occur as a result of this lockdown as people are self-isolating.
“Some delivery services are still allowed during the lockdown. Companies such as Checkers, Takealot, Pick n Pay and Woolworths will continue to deliver groceries and essential products to their customers,” he said.

“When making use of a delivery service, do not go out to the vehicle by yourself.
“Be sure the vehicle is clearly marked with the delivery company’s details as criminals might use this method to try and get access to your property and try to overpower you while you are alone.”
He gave the following tips:
– Do not open your gate unless it is absolutely necessary.
– Always wear a mask and gloves.
– Sanitise your card (debit/credit) after every use.
– Do not approach anyone you cannot identify.
– Do not wear jewellery when you approach the gate.
– Do not accept any free samples or gifts from anyone during lockdown.
– Keep doors locked and be vigilant as criminals may be on the lookout for soft targets.
Du Plessis further said to eliminate the element of surprise it was important to have a premeditated action plan as a precaution.
He advised people to hire a registered security company to guard their property during the lockdown period as a precaution.
“It is important to be signed with a security company and to have their emergency details at hand in the event of an emergency,” Du Plessis concluded.
